Модели HJM и LMM предоставляют исследователю полную свободу при выборе временной структуры волатильности. Модель LMM имеет два ключевых преимущества над моделью HJM. Во-первых, она основана на форвардных ставках, влияющих на цены опционов “кэп”, а не на мгновенных форвардных ставках. Во-вторых, она допускает намного более простую калибровку на основе цен опционов “кэп” или европейских свопционов. Как модель HJM, так и модель LMM имеют серьезный недостаток – их невозможно описать с помощью рекомбинирующих деревьев. На практике это означает, что для их реализации необходимо использовать моделирование с помощью метода Монте-Карло.
Американский рынок ценных бумаг, обеспеченных закладными, породил множество экзотических процентных опционов: CMO, IO, PO и др. Эти финансовые инструменты создают денежные потоки, объем которых зависит от размера предварительных выплат по пулу ипотечных закладных. Размер этих выплат зависит, помимо прочего, от уровня процентных ставок. Поскольку они существенно зависят от предыстории, для вычисления стоимости ценных бумаг, обеспеченных закладными, используется метод Монте-Карло. Следовательно, они образуют перспективное поле для приложения модели HJM или модели рынка LIBOR.
